At Paediatric People, our core belief is that working as a team allows us to offer outstanding care to young people, in a responsive way, that centres on the needs of the young person and their family.
We have found that by using a team of clinicians (GPs, paediatricians, nursing and allied health clinicians) we can improve the quality of care your patient receives, and reduce the time they have to wait to be seen.
Every patient is triaged according to their individual situation - so when it is clinically appropriate, many children see a paediatrician in their first appointment.
In other instances, we find that booking a child with one of our GPs is the ideal way to deliver comprehensive care in the most responsive way. This is particularly appropriate for children who come to us with questions about their development, behaviour and mental health. Our GPs take a comphrehensive history, organise relevant assessments and screening tools, and may commence medications or write support or advocacy letters. Urgent or complex children are discussed with one of the paediatricians in a timely manner. The first GP appointment at Paediatric People is very consistent with the work done by a paediatrician in their intake appointments.
Some children will see the paediatrician after 1-2 GP appointments. Other children may never need to see a paediatrician, but their care will typically be supported through care team meetings.
We are extremely appreciative of the role that you, as the family GP, play in your patient’s life. We do not want to repeat the work you have already done - we are always aiming to take the next step for your patient. Sometimes we find that we do this best by using a team approach.

We are delighted to accept referrals from you. Because of our carefully designed, team-care model, we can offer your patient an appointment within a reasonable time frame (days to weeks, depending on clinical urgency).
Our referrals are all triaged by a clinician and we are careful to see urgent cases promptly, wherever possible. We specifically hold appointments for referrals of babies, children with physical medical concerns and young people with eating disorders.
We are accepting referrals of all paediatric presentations. If we feel we are not the right service for your patient, we will contact you and your patient to suggest an alternative.
